Food & Eating - Things That Work

DRINK WATER- up to 2 litres a day which is approximately 10 glasses or 3 x 600ml bottles.

DON’T SKIP MEALS- Don’t eat less than your daily kilojoule allowance or your brain may think your body is being starved and will compensate by slowing your metabolism.

LOWER FAT INTAKE- Maintain fat intake at approximately 30-60 mg per day.

“ENERGY IN” vs “ENERGY OUT”- It’s all about “energy in” (the food you eat) and “energy out” (your total energy expenditure). Balance these and you won’t gain or lose weight. Tip either one and you’ll also tip your weight up or down.

COMFORT EATING - HABIT EATING- Find a positive outlet such as a hobby or a sport. Distract yourself. Eliminate ‘comfort food’ from the house. Explore issues with someone qualified. A lifetime of healthy weight doesn’t preclude you from the odd treat, but be controlled, be sensible and limit your splurges!

INVENTORY YOUR FRIDGE AND PANTRY- Make a list of the contents of your fridge and pantry so you can see what you are buying and the types of foods you are eating.

YOU WANT INSTANT RESULTS- Some people are unrealistic and want to lose all the weight they have accumulated over years in a couple of weeks. Rapid weight loss stimulates hunger- the body will interpret sudden weight loss as impending starvation. So be patient- we have a program to lose weight successfully and sensibly.
